Little Adventures

Scheduling Made Easy

Little Adventures is designed to introduce kids to adventures and give them the confidence to try something new. Each class is led by a local expert (a Scout) who is passionate about sharing Destin-Fort Walton Beach's water culture with kids.

Little Adventures hired Goodlight as a Contract UX Designer for their employee app — the Scout app. The app is designed to serve as a valuable resource for beach scouts, allowing them to efficiently access their schedules, stay informed of company-wide announcements, and receive timely information through both the app and the opportunity to communicate with fellow scouts.

The following case study showcases the work completed over 5 months.

Goals for the Scout app

When we joined this project, there were no established goals or business requirements for the Scout app, and the responsibility to develop them became our first assignment.

  1. Provide a centralized platform
One of the primary goals of the Scout app is to serve as a centralized platform for beach scouts, allowing them to access their schedules, company-wide announcements, and timely information in one location.

  2. Enhance communication
The app is intended to facilitate communication between scouts, allowing them to chat with each other and receive updates in real time. This can help to improve collaboration and ensure that everyone is on the same page.

  3. Streamline workflows
By providing scouts with quick and easy access to their schedules and other important information, the app can help streamline workflows and increase efficiency.

  4. Improve performance
By providing timely information and updates, the app can help to improve the performance of beach scouts, ensuring that they are well-prepared and informed for each task or assignment.

Navigation overview

Goodlight conducted a series of user interviews with the Scouts to understand field needs and used insights to structure features and wishlists into a sitemap.

Goal: Create navigation and page structure for the Scout app to engage SMEs and lay the foundation for future wireframes and UI design.

User Flows

Some segments of the Scout flows were confusing, inefficient, and error-prone. For example, all of the class and Scout management was handled in a Google Sheet. Scouts were also in charge of managing their own students which had created a lack of operational knowledge.

Goal: Analyze existing manual workflows and design an automated solution for streamlined processes.

Wireframes

Using the user flow and the content outline as a guide, we began exploring ideas that could resolve challenges in Scout workflows, including manual processes, inefficiencies, and the lack of operational knowledge.

Throughout the wireframe process, our central focus was on amplifying the user experience by placing the Scouts' needs at the forefront.

To do this effectively, we strived to create a highly streamlined and user-centric dashboard. This dashboard was intended to serve as the gateway to their digital workspace, one that not only enhances their daily tasks but also provides them with the necessary tools and insights to excel in their roles.
